Ian Davis, an architect, was in practice for twelve years in the UK and USA before spending twenty years lecturing in the School of Architecture in Oxford Brookes University (formerly Oxford Polytechnic).

From the early 1970’s he embarked on a new career studying and advising the UN and Governments on Shelter following Disasters and Disaster Risk Management, involving travel to over 45 countries.

In parallel, he has developed an interest in watercolour painting, writing and lecturing about Oxford and its rich architecture and landscape. This book brings together his lectures, walking tours, articles, paintings and drawings resulting from work that spans almost fifty years. The book is illustrated with over 100 drawings and paintings of Oxford. The originals, aside from those loaned, are all available for purchase. These can be seen here.

6/3 - MESSAGE FROM IAN: INTRODUCING EXPERIENCING OXFORD

Today, March 6th 2020 is one of those important days in my life!  I was 83 years old earlier this week and my best birthday present has been the arrival of consignments of Experiencing Oxford from Gutenberg Press in Malta.  This book has taken 4-5 years to write and illustrate.  Or, when seen from a wider time perspective the book has actually taken since 1971 to materialise, from the time I came to live in Oxford with my family: my wife Judy and our three children, Mandy, Caroline and Simon.  So the book covers a kaleidoscope of experiences, memories, wanderings, comments and paintings spread across the past 49 years.  I attach the link to a powerpoint presentation here that will be shown with commentary at the three book launches and signings to which all are most welcome.  Each will follow an identical format where  I introduce the book, answer questions and sign books.  In each case a selection of original paintings that are illustrated in the book will be on show.

2/3 - INTERVIEW WITH CONOR GALLAGHER, BOOK DESIGNER

Ian Davis recently interviewed the talented Conor Gallagher, designer of Experiencing Oxford, about everything that went into designing the book and the experience of seeing it printed. Click *here* to read.
